Medicis in Virginia

Once upon a time, a wealthy family would commission a struggling artist to do a life size portrait of the family or an individual. Expensive and therefore very impressive.

In a "World is Flat" scenario, DaVinci Designs, democratizes this for the masses.

Here's how it works:
  1. photographer takes a picture
  2. graphic designer touches it up (in this case, adds some flowers, removes blemishes)
  3. picture is emailed to China
  4. low-cost Chinese artists do a life-size oil painting and ship it back to US, where it is framed.

Bang...for a few thousand $, you have what the Medicis would have paid a small fortune for.

Company is owned by a friend living in Virginia. Very neat.
